This picture may not mean much to you, but it means the world to me. It’s the title page of what I consider to be my first book. It is dated May 8, 1984 and the title is “My Mother”. I had to be around seven or eight years old when I wrote it. I found it among my mother’s things after she passed. This, along with several other written projects, I’d done over the years were carefully preserved in a storage box. Of course, I don’t remember writing this but when I discovered this I had an “aha” moment. I realized that I am doing exactly what I was destined to do! All those years ago I already knew I was going to be a writer I just didn’t know I knew! What I also realized is that somewhere there’s a teacher who has no idea that with this simple assignment she lit a creative spark that would turn into an inferno. To that teacher, I am extremely grateful and to my mother who was my inspiration I say, I love you!
I want to do the same thing for other little writers and I am proud to announce that I am doing my first workshop for children. I want to help youth who have a desire to give words a life of their own catch the “writer’s bug” too. Parents, I invite you to register the little writers in your life and allow me and a few of my colleagues to inspire and encourage them.
The Little Writers Workshop will tell students ages 7 -12 about the craft of writing and what they need to do if they want to be an author. Students will also learn the basics of writing a good story and participate in a writing project. It is suggested that students who attend have moderate to strong writing skills to get the most out of this workshop. All materials will be provided. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. The workshop will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. The basic cost is $20.00 per child. For more information and to register visit…..
